On August 14, the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC), in collaboration with the Southern Vietnam Digital Communications Association (SVDCA) and Navee Group, organized the conference "Growth in Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence." The event aimed to help businesses grasp new technologies, enhance their data exploitation and management capabilities, thereby improving decision-making quality and increasing competitive advantages.
Ms. Ho Thi Quyen, Deputy Director of ITPC, stated that Ho Chi Minh City is striving to have the digital economy account for 30% of its GRDP by 2026 and reach 40% by 2030. To build a solid foundation for this roadmap, the city is planning to establish a data exchange, construct at least two data centers and two centralized digital technology zones, and strongly promote the application of digital platforms in industry, logistics, retail, and key economic sectors.
From a business perspective, Mr. Nguyen Minh Liem, Co-founder and CEO of BYTE Technology Joint Stock Company, raised the issue that although the AI wave is driving a strong technology investment race, most Vietnamese enterprises have yet to translate these technological solutions into measurable financial results.
The root causes stem from three core bottlenecks: fragmented data across multiple systems, inaccurate or outdated information, and a disconnect between analysis and execution.
According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Liem, no matter how powerful an AI model is, it cannot compensate for a lack of customer context, as technology only creates value when it delivers specific business outcomes. To turn AI into a growth engine, customer data systems must be comprehensively standardized to ensure integration, accuracy, real-time updates, privacy compliance, and readiness for activation.
Therefore, cleaning and focusing on exploiting unified data sources play a crucial role in delivering clear, proven financial efficiency. Surveys show that with accurate data, advertising spend efficiency increases by 35% after 12 months; simultaneously, it cuts costs per order for existing customers by about 40% and triples cross-selling revenue by identifying the right interaction timing. These figures help businesses optimize operating costs and protect profit margins in an increasingly fierce competitive landscape.
According to analysis from Mr. Vu Huu Son, Head of Solutions Consulting at GreenNode Joint Stock Company, businesses are shifting from the AI experimentation phase to practical application to generate economic value. This trend is driving a boom in the global AI infrastructure market, which is projected to grow from $158 billion to $419 billion by 2030.
However, businesses are also facing the challenge of rising infrastructure investment costs, with expenses reaching millions of USD per AI rack, alongside the risk of rapid depreciation after just 2-3 years. Beyond the financial burden, power density requirements for each server are skyrocketing, pushing global AI power demand from 132 GW to 290 GW by 2030, making energy the biggest barrier.
To resolve the cost bottleneck and the technical complexity of operating network infrastructure, the strategic shift of AI FinOps from purchasing assets (CAPEX) to flexible service leasing (OPEX) is becoming the optimal choice, allowing costs to be paid based on the actual volume of data processed.
Concurrently, the increased presence of Edge AI and specialized inference chips is reshaping the entire technology investment landscape, helping businesses optimize performance per unit of power while ensuring data security and sovereignty.
Mr. Bui Song Toan, Deputy Director of the Cloud Platform Services Development Center at FPT Smart Cloud (FPT Corporation), stated that the cloud computing market in Vietnam is forecast to reach $6.98 billion by 2030 with an annual growth rate of nearly 11%.

Currently, many businesses consider cloud computing a mandatory element in their business strategy, with Generative AI (GenAI) becoming the primary driver. The rise of GenAI is accelerating software development speed significantly, as approximately 75% of new code at Google is now AI-generated, and it is projected that the proportion of AI-generated source code will approach 95% within the next 5 years.
However, the increased speed of programming comes with information security challenges, as 94% of leaders consider AI the biggest change factor for information security, and the potential rate of security vulnerabilities in AI-generated source code ranges from 38% to over 70%.
Besides risks from applications, the FPT Smart Cloud representative also pointed out a major challenge where businesses often neglect internal connection flows, which account for 70-80% of total system traffic, leading to an urgent requirement for automated information security monitoring and enhanced multi-layer risk management to proactively defend in governance.
